Ok I just checked and Heathen Harvest doesn't have a myspace page. I know its a pretty commercial place, but through its friends list it has a huge underground fanbase. If you check out links such as this

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=227919402

or this

http://www.myspace.com/kammarheit

You can see labels and fans have linked into the musican's homepage. I dont know whether Heathen would find such a think useful....but I have a feeling that it would have even wider coverage than Last.FM.

All you would have to do is set up a spiffy homepage - then invite a couple of the labels and acts to ur friends list...it would then grow on its own as more and more people added the harvest.

Well I hope the idea is worth a thought (and by the way I am sorry to link in a user profile from myspace but i needed examples).

Thx
A

Yes indeed, Heathen Harvest had a MySpace page (with over 5000 friends) but the powers that be at MS deleted the whole thing about a week ago, and with no reason given, it's simply that they probably objected to some aspect or other of the profile and decided to take it off WITHOUT notifying HH... and yesterday I noticed quite a few of my friends on there had also been given the same treatment ... I guess if you don't fit in with their ideology then you have no place being there....

omg im so sorry - I can't see how it could be offensive...some of the myspace areas ive seen are pretty out there Razz

Perhaps someone objected to the "Heathen" part of the title...lol.

I will keep wracking my brain for ideas. I can't believe they don't even give a reason...

This again proves why myspace sucks and should not be used.

Lately I find myspace really slow on my computer. This has been ever since they updated the chat feature.... Facebook seems much faster, I believe all the adds on MS slow it down...grrr. I still think it is superior for finding bands and people though. I just wish they would sort it out.

I use myspace but its turning to a network kind MSN Live!, chat, and all the useless stuff for artist use. I dont like that.
The last offer from them was the 'have your own email adress : xxxxx @myspace.com' . I reaaally dont like that.
For a +/- near future, I was seriously thinking on leave myspace.

Some time ago I move to http://www.virb.com. Dont take it as spam but get a look on my profile there : http://www.virb.com/crepuscular.-

Yes, you are right : its thousands better than myspace: you can up more tracks, in fact complete albums, you can organize better all your stuff. Its simple and very effective. Spend some minutes to read the FAQs , heres about audio:

"...The only exception is Audio profiles, who start off with the ability to upload 20 tracks. Once 20 tracks have been uploaded, they can upload 5 new tracks a week."

Nothing too bad doesnt it? , so I hope they will keep this direction.

But in fact I love official sites out of this uniform networks. No matter how sophisticated or how crap is, I still prefer them than social networks niches.

Hey! wait a minute! : dont be suspicious! I dont work on virb! Laughing Laughing

Wish Facebook had a music feature, I love that place. Mostly because it doesn't take a big shit on my computer's RAM every time I go to it...

I see facebook as pretty invading stuff, I know you can arrange all private settings but still I see it as too much advertising for every new thing that happens in the network directly or indirectly related to your own account. Mmmm.
My girlfriend has an account over there and i dont like how facebook works. Is not my cup of tea.
But I dont deny the positive side of this revolutionary ways of (in?)communication.

But something I really dont like at all is tweeter :X

sage there's a last.fm app and the iLike app for facebook, bith of which connect your profile a bit better with your music. the last.fm thing of course requires you to have an account there, and the iLike thing is a bit mainstream. but recently i've found a whole bunch of good people on facebook - karmanik, militia, tesco, chrome peeler records to name but a few...

yeah voidrone, it is very invasive though... every time they add a new feature or tweak an old one you have to rummage around in the 10 or so pages of security settings to make sure everything's still switched off. but, as with everything here on the internets, it's only what you allow it to be. if you put the scantes amount of information on it and check it for a couple minutes every now and then, it's no more invasive than any other social site.

MySpace is dead. And I speak as a musician. Only bands adding bands.

Turn to FaceBook and Twitter if you insist...

I see a big revival of the personal website myself, for I'm not happy with FB whatsoever.

Last.fm and stuff, like Pandora and Spotify, are only OK for UK/USA/etc... people because due to license shite all other people in the world have to pay for their services...

Such a shame...

IZ.

yeah, all i (and pretty much anyone i know) use myspace for is checking out bands and clubnights (and promoting). but can't heathen harvest work with this paradigm? at least to build up a network of affiliated musicians and promoters, who can then take their connection with HH into their own space?

Sure, but for that to happen we need more administrators who are willing to put more work into HH than simple reviews. Most people act like its a big deal that they're expected to submit three reviews per issue let alone do more work. Lord forbid some of them submit an interview once in a while or show interest in doing external work...

That's not towards new guys like you though Adam, for the record. You've been doing a hell of a job so far and I hope you know that.

The problem right now is the administration is stretched too thin. Malahki handles the shipping and receiving, Elena does all the internal PR, Ayax and Paddy both handle reviews and are editors, and I do all of the External PR, Concert Reports, Interviews, and adding Concert Events to the Calendar, Facebook, Myspace, and frequenting other forums like Chondritic Noise to keep HH at a personal level with artists. I'm stretched so thin that its actually keeping me online too much. Its starting to affect my home life...

Anyway, the point is we need more admins, but to bring on more admins, we need people who are passionate about this and who want to help out in any way they can. That would include things like what you just suggested. Every time someone has been here a while and showed a good deal of effort and I ask them to come on board lately, with the exception of Ayax, they don't have time. So at this point I'm writing up an application for Administrator and we're gonna send it out to all the journalists to see who has the time and what they want to do.

So if we get more people on board in the background, we can go into all these different areas that we want to.

It's a shame that Myspace seems to be dying out as everyone jumps ship the the latest greatest trend. That being mostly Facebook and Twitter these days. Facebook is great for keeping in contact with your "real life" friends. Myspace is superior for branching out socially, meeting people, discovering new bands, etc. For that reason I like Myspace. I also like how each person can customize their Myspace page. Facebook doesn't allow any room to color outside the lines. Every profile has the same standard, sterile layout. They attempt to force everything to be "real" like names, locations etc. And I agree with whoever disliked Twitter. What an utterly useless trend. Hopefully that one will die by the end of the year.

Wow that was a big tangent. Anyway, I think it would be a great idea for someone to make a new HH Myspace page. I think it's still a really good place to advertise for that sort of thing.
