amazing isn't it? I think when you scan that record it says it's "new age" but you'd think the rotting bird carcass would be some kind of tip off

Ambient/Dark Ambient is my favorite genre of music. Ambient takes me places that no other form of music can. Its all I pretty much listen too. Plus it helps put me to sleep. So it has value to me like no other music has. Some of my faves in the genre include:

Rapoon-Fires on the Borderlands...Essential
Alio Die-Aura Seminalis...Essential
Raison D'etre
Robert Rich-Fissures
Hecq's new album is amazing, its called Night Falls. Essential, track it down
The Caretaker
Steve Roach
Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works Vol. II
Faryus-Lucid Dreams
Oophoi-Everything this man does is wonderful
Nordvargr
Atomine Elektrine
Christopher Bissonette-In Between Words

I could go on and on, but I don't want to bore you.

dark ambient/noise to me are the natural evolution of musical development, they allow the listener to fill in the details with their own minds, usually with only a subtle theme to keep your thoughts on track, i have never liked being told what to think so when i listen to 'music' or watch TV it often pisses me off, unless it is the rare program that i click with, in fact i dont buy or listen to 'regular music' anymore unless i am 'researching the enemy'(britney), and then i only listen because someone else is playing it, otherwise, i will 'hi-jack' the stereo and jam in one of my many favorites, i love to see the reaction on peoples faces the first time they hear zoviet france or schloss tegal or whatever i just downloaded, their minds immediately start searching for a 'message' to train along with, and when they dont find one they start to get anxious having heard their OWN thoughts for the first time in awhile....love it

Atrium Carceri is on of my recent favorites. Beautiful soundscapes for transcendence.

For me, and I am sure many others, ambient music in general can lure out emotions & moods along with creating visuals that the music makes you feel. Because generally there are no "lyrics" the listener can create their own story with the music, or create a vision in their mind that fits the track. Ambient music is also a great collaborator with images, somewhat of a soundtrack to a picture or image. Ambient music is personal, it varies from each listener how it effects them. This of course is all my opinion, the reason why I enjoy ambient music.

Some like the meditative sounds, some love the bleak lyrical themes and wonderful reclusive sounds, and some just adore the concept and Ideaology of it.

I personally love all of the above, but everytime an album takes a theme or concept to a new level, I get a massive buzz.

Take Rukkanor's "Requiem for K-141 KYPCK" for example...

I like a lot of musicstyles. But, i listen to/make dark/deep ambient to relax after a busy workday and to escape for a couple of hours form the stressfull reality.

With this style you have also much room to experimentate with sounds en atmospheres and do the maximum with your electronic instruments.

Much has already been said but my appreciation for dark ambient is this: it deeply affects my mood and mind state in such a way that I inhabit another world and can view "this world" from a changed lens. The range of emotions that ambient music evokes for me is varied from awe to terror to ecstasy and spiritual consolation. As a rule, I only listen to ambient music during the night time. To me it is simply not fit for normal, daytime, conciousness. In fact, I do find it to be boring unless it is the right time and I'm in the right state of mind. Listening to ambient music is a very ritualized thing for me.

I would say what several have said, it provides a canvas for the imagination. A fluid one at that, and I think that’s true for most abstract music. Your mood informs what you get out of it as much as the music itself does. It is a soundtrack for the non-descript so you are able to fill in the specifics depending on where your head is at. More structured or literal music doesn’t offer those same opportunities.

Just want to say that your project is amazing, trippy, and terrifying. Keep it up.

As religions and the belief in god continue to fade, dark ambient fills a spiritual void and will continue too. If I can be presumptuous.
