As I understand, Ethereal is something like a mix of gothic rock and ethnic motives...
All this stuff like early Dead Can Dance, Love Spirals Downwards, Soul Whirling Somewhere etc...
I strongly recommend This Ascension as well... One of my favourites!

Judging by their last few albums ...no... I don't.

Oh yeah, totally. The music went downhill, and the change from real instruments to cheap synths was awful. I also did not particularly enjoy Spiritchaser.

also got too "ethic" (hate that term) for me....that influence was always there but it wasn't done as tastefully as before

Not as much "too ethnic" as just plain "too friendly".

They lost a lot of that dark and otherworldly gothic atmosphere they had up until Aion.

The last 2 didn't have all that much to separate them from the slew of other mainstream ethnic/new age/world music artists.

Still, I like the music video for "The Carnival is Over" Razz
