Great stuff! don't believe I've heard Disembowelment before. This project shows to me that when done tastefully, Western musicians flirting with Arabic and Middle Eastern sounds can produce some very interesting music!

Completely agree with you. Most occidental musicians, especially "rock" musicians, when trying to approach this music, either spoof it and fall into total cliché, or get lost in a vain attempt at playing it "right". Which is indeed not the case here.

This is a vast subject. Actual medieval music, as far as musicologists have tried to recreate it (what we feel as "medieval" t our ears is actually rather "modern" or even baroque music) sure owns a debt to oriental music, at least in certain geographic areas. Music travels fast, instruments too ; but it changes really fast too, so one can question the actual part of "orientality" left at some point. For instance, the oriental-sounding intervals in flamenco music could originate in a jewish and arabic influence... But most musicologist don't absolutely agree on this, especially since oriental elements were forced out of Spain at the end of the 15th century. Trying to find the "roots" of any kind of music is a headache.
Anyway, Trial Of The Bow really sound excellent to my ear. There's nothing new in their stuff, and there' are a lot of hollywoodian soundtracks exploring the same musical territories - but the job is really really well done.

Give it a go! Even if you're not a fan of death-doom, it's worth a listen just to hear how heavy and cavernous it sounds.

I love this band and I love Disembowelment!!
I doubt anyone here would have trouble appreciating either style!! 
As a love of doom metal as well as the middle-eastern side of darkwave/folk, I highly recommend both bands.

The Australians are probably aware of this, but d.USK (the new band featuring some of the dISBOWELMENT guys) are playing their first gig later this mont in Melbourne, and will even be playing some tracks from Transcendence Into The Peripheral album. There's another gig lined up in Sydney for June.
