I'm just curious as to what genres we should try to cover more here at Heathen Harvest. As we are JUST starting to get the metal section going, I figured it would be nice to give some of the regular users/readers a chance to have some input on this. I'll try to make arrangements according to this poll as far as output on my end. Poll will be ran for two weeks. Cheers!

Well, personally I like BM the most, but as Death Metal, Thrash and other stuff are also fine with me, I went for the combinational thing.

I opted for Death/Grindcore, but really I would love to see all genres equally represented.

Honestly I don't see the point of running metal section - there are so many metal webzines in Internet. Who needs another one? Smile IMO it would be better to concentrate on less popular musical genres. But well, if such section exists, I'd like to see some material about ambient/doom/drone metal bands (Nadja, Burning Witch etc.). That's why I choose doom/atmospheric.

Indeed. I'd personally like to focus more on the post-black metal/industrial death metal side of things, as well as some really good drone doom/atmosphereic doom. While there ARE a lot of metal zines out there, I am a big fan of most genres covered here as well as metal. I'd like to be the trip hop guy too in all honesty Wink

Folk/pagan/viking and doom/drone doom would be nice.

I'd have to say that Viking/Folk/Pagan Metal has to be the genre in need of more publicity than any of the other aforementioned genres. Progressive and Power already recieve a lot, sometimes too much attention, with Thrash close behind. Black and Death metal you always hear about while Doom... eh, Doom's not a genre I particularly care for.

Actually, if there was a genre I'd like to see more of, it would be Avante-garde metal, such as Unexpect, Ram-Zet, and Aberrant Vascular. Great music, highly creative but you never hear of them.

Unexpect is one of The End Records' top sellers at this moment in time, while i've been a big Ram-zet fan for a long while, as well as Ensoph. I agree that Avant-garde metal needs more coverage, and i plan on getting it to that point. I am just anticipating/waiting for the right time to jump on a few particular labels.

Thats about it, but perhaps if we showed more support for the genre we would see more troll oriented metal.

I've been listening to loads of DOOOOM lately, especially funeral doom, or sludge/drone closest to funeral doom such as Corrupted, etc.
I think this genre has the most in common with dark ambient/etc. at the moment.

Of course, black metal would be a close second.

I also like lots of folk/viking metal, but the stuff closer to black, doom, or neofolk...... Temnozor for instance, rather than the commercial neo-powermetal/neo-melodeath garbage.

And definitely death, grind, and thrash are underrated genres in the spectrum of "dark music".

I know there's tons upon tons of metal zines out there, but I really like the way Heathen Harvest extends it's mixture of genres wide over the dark/experimental music scene, enough to include the metal scene, and perhaps bring a metalhead or two into the industrial scene or vice versa.

The only genre on that list that doesn't really need to be there is progressive/powermetal, as it's covered enough in mainstream metal mags, and caters generally to the typical joe schmoe Arch Enemy/Nightwish fan.
