AND I deleted my Myspace page. Anyone else out there opting out?

Only thing I miss is being able to keep up with bands and events with the relative ease of it all being at one place on the interwebz.

Please do not try and evangelize me on why I should join FB! Razz

Deleted my Facebook account a few weeks ago. I never used it and it just annoyed me.

For events I just use Last FM and Songkick.

Well, glad I'm not alone!

I just wish there were more mailing lists or active forums (hello out there!!) to help me keep track of my favorite bands or upcoming festivals without subscribing to social networking.

I never quite figured out how to use Last FM. Any tips?

You'd do well to! Set up an account

https://www.last.fm/join

and then just download the plugin and attach it to your mp3 player software on your computer:

http://www.last.fm/download

Then the tracks will automatically go to your profile whenever you play an mp3 or WAV. Or FLAC. As long as the tags are correct [i.e. artist name and track name on the file]

I can't stand Facebook. I have an account that I don't maintain or check at all and recently I created a joke profile there to keep in touch with just a couple of real friends and follow some bands pages for news.

Didn't like FB since the very beginning I was introduced to it although not that popular at that time.
I'm not against social networking in general - I'll second Lysander's recommendation about last.fm, I'm using it too and like it. Nothing wrong to connect with people with common interests even be a kind of poser in your hobby or profession in case cites like behance.net for example.

.

100% exactly same situation here. Very Happy
Never be into, plus, over times I developed a very deep antipathy towards facebook and hate watching how every corner of Internet is adoring facebook by following its rules Evil or Very Mad

From the point of view of musick creator:

LastFM? interesting but not enough to wet my pants. (but good if you are listener, anyway not my cup of tea) I have an account there. But dislike seeing my tracks and albums mispelled or my artist's profile spammed with ridiculous tags. They need to make this easy to fix. Im less than from time-to-time user.

MySpace? a useful crap Laughing Im there too, 5 accounts. Razz

Soundcloud? nice and clean, hope they will keep it in that way. Im there too.

Bandcamp? ladies & gentlemen: here is the future for artists . After some meditation I decide to join the boat.

Facebook.... meh, I only use it to connect with family members and old friends, which is about all it's good for, and I very rarely update or post anything.

Myspace was alright for band promotion and networking until they went ahead and fucked up the whole site. Nowadays I find it confusing even in English, let alone on a Japanese computer.

I'm also on a Japanese site called Mixi, which is generally good for keeping up with local events and concerts going on.

If soundcloud and bandcamp had an incorporated volume bar they'd be perfect.

yes, hahaha, hey, Soundcloud's volume control is on right top corner. But I would like to have it on each player. Wink

Bandcamp simply lacks of one. And yes, this is (very) pretty weird for a site specially designed for spread sound. Shocked Confused
Thats why I have thinking before join bandcamp. I will be making some test until fully integrate it to my network.

Do you remember Virb.com? thats was something very, very good, it was a real alternative to myspace for both fans and artists, but they made it pay and ruined the whole thing -_-

Well only lastfm and bandcamp (mabe) are useful for me. Myspace, well I keep it because of all my contacts. Facebook, I have my account but it is the same as myspace but in the end it is evil and absolutely ugly !!! I will delete all of this as soon as I have my own web site... Very Happy

Embarassed
I was looking for something to post short news on my revamped website so twitter was the choice.
Quick and easy. But im not really in the wave, in fact I dont understand how it really works. Mine, is just pure instrumental use. Hahaha.

BUT I still refuse to be on facebook, I dont found any reason to have an account there. No way.

Ha, I deleted my account recently as well.
Many people got on my case about it.

The thing is, call me George Orwell, but I don't think we should have artificial networking with people we know in real life. It makes sense for strangers to talk online, but when I look around and see kids sitting on their cell phones in restaurants Facebooking when they're out to dinner with their families, it's rather sad to me.

Besides, I've gotten so much done since I deleted it!
